End It Movement: Basic facts about sex trafficking in MN and the US

SEX TRAFFICKING. Happens all around the world. YES, even in the United States. YES, even Minnesota. YES, in every single county (and possibly every city) in Minnesota. NO, the women are likely not trafficked to Minnesota from another country. YES, they were born and raised in either Minnesota or another U.S. state. It is hidden in homes. Suburbs. Rural areas. And, of course, urban cities like Minneapolis. The majority of the women and girls (yes, girls, between the ages of 13 & 17) I’ve worked with are people of color. Most are black or mixed. Some are Native, some are white, and some are Hispanic.

Something to point out is CHILDREN cannot be prostitutes and most WOMEN are technically not prostitutes. Many women were sex trafficked or prostituted as children and grew to the age of adulthood where they were automatically titled a “prostitute” because they hit age 18. There is something deeply wrong with this picture.

In addition to this unjust understanding of “prostitutes,” there is also something called SURVIVAL SEX. This is a concept where women who cannot afford to put food on the table for their children will sell their bodies for money in order to feed their babies. They see this as their only option to earn money fast to meet the needs of their children. When will people begin seeing the truth of this situation? When will we stop demonizing the victim and begin loving and caring for them?

We have a problem of RACISM. A problem of SEXISM. A problem of IGNORANCE. And a major problem of INACTION. So, what are YOU going to do about it?

Hear me when I tell you this is said in love, passion, and a frustrated desire for change.

Open your eyes, friends.
